Welcome to Alaska and our home in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley called "Mat-Su"  or "Su Valley" by locals.  It is perfectly located in the most spectacular part of Alaska.  We have it all---winter or summer.  Denali, the Great One, known as Mt. McKinley, stands over twenty thousand feet dominating the Valley views.   Equally as impressive is the Susitna River drainage running past us just a few miles west.  The Big- Su river along with its tributaries is a winter and summer super highway and is famous for its salmon runs. Vern SusanThe community of Willow is the heart of the Su Valley and is known as the "Recreation Capital of Alaska" for good reason.  We have it all:  lakes, streams, mountains and wilderness.  Fishing, hiking, biking, rafting, canoeing, climbing and, of course, our official state sport--dog mushing are the soul of Willow.  Willow is recognized as the "Mushing Capital of Alaska".  Our great trail systems  and great Iditarod kennels punctuate the landscape, something we are very proud of.  Willow often hosts the Restart ( the real start) of the Iditarod Sleddog Race and the Iditarod Trail is easily accessed right out of our kennel.  Wildlife is common here.  We share our habitat with  moose, bear and bald eagles.   Lucky for mushers the bears take a snooze in the winter.  Salmon, rainbow trout and grayling are abundant.  Our friends, the fox, wolf and porcupine are shy but ever present.   Willow ptarmigan, Alaska's state bird flock up and down the Willow side of Hatcher Pass.

Having traveled 150,000 miles by dogteam in Alaska has honed Susan's and my respect for the wilderness and we still marvel at the beauty and solitude of our Valley and what it has to offer.  COME JOIN US!  Winter or Summer.  It is our home and we would love to introduce it to you the way we learned:  Off the Beaten Path. We are proud to be members of the following associations:
